NATALIE SERBER

Natalie Serber is the author of the story collection, Shout Her Lovely Name (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2012).  Her stories were hailed as "nuanced and smart" by the New York Times, which named the collection as a Notable Book of 2012.  O, the Oprah Magazine, praised the stories as “achingly true to life when it comes to the many ways mothers and daughters grow together and apart, over and over again,” and selected the collection as a 2012 Summer Read.  The Wall St. Journal said, "The characters are irresistible...Serber writes with exquisite patience and sensitivity." 

Her fiction has appeared in The Bellingham Review, Fourth Genre, Gulf Coast, Inkwell, and Hunger Mountain.  Essays and reviews have appeared online at The Rumpus and Salon, and in print at The New York Times and Oregonian.  Awards and grants include the Barbara Deming Grant for Women Artists, Tobias Wolff Award, H.E. Francis Award, John Steinbeck Award, all for fiction, and finalist mentions for the Annie Dillard Creative Nonfiction Award, and The Third Coast Fiction Award.  

She teaches fiction at Marylhurst University. Serber is working on a novel.
